Played in various bands in my younger days. Worked in a music shop through the rise & fall of punk (UK). Spent the next years programming computers. Still work in IT but now back into music. Play guitar, piano, write and record, produce & recluse. There I've said too much already.

Umm...I don't really know what to say really, the song kinda says it all (if you can actually get what the lyrics are...stupid damn microphone)
Please don't critasise to harshly, I am very ammateur! (is that even how you spell that word...?)

The strangest chords I ever came up with, not intentionally, though. The song idea is about 4-5 yrs old but it was redone a couple of months ago into this version. One slight problem you might notice is the drums - I think I might have used the same pattern for this song and GRUGE. It's just that my wave library is very limited.
Please tell me what you think about this song.

Hey guys, we just recorded this in my apartment. It's a song off our recent album. We're called MARULA. Check out our site at marula.ca Enjoy!

Btw, the vocals start in the middle of the song and I hate mp3 sound, so if any of you know how to make the best of it, tips would be appreciated, thanx. Usually I export in wav format.

There's a feeling that we've all had at some point in our lives, when you suddenly realise that you've REALLY screwed something up and there's absolutely nothing you can do about it. No amount of regret or feeling sorry for yourself is gonna change a thing ... nor will it change the fact that it was entirely your fault.

Here's a song about that feeling ...

Evergreen

Finally! It works! this is quite seriously my 6th attempt at getting this song to load and play. Well done Chester. Well done.

Yes, so this is an old song... but has always held sentimental value with me :)

Check out my other stuff, I load another 2 songs today. A piano one, and then half a song... because i lost the other half... long story.

Seems a lot of people are adding lyrics. So I thought I'd put mine on a couple of songs :)

VERSE 1

So you’ve run away again?
And left nothing in your place.
Except a shadow and a sin,
Etched forever in your space.

PRECHORUS:

Than she turns to you and smiles,
At where you’ve been.
And says life ain’t,
Evergreen.

CHORUS:

Come fall down,
Get blown around.
You’re a leaf up in the air,
And it’s the autumn of your year.

VERSE 2

Well time is coming round the bend,
It seems you try too hard to smile.
And it’s only near the end,
That you find your inner child.

PRECHORUS:
It’s always,
Inbetween.
That you find life ain’t,
Evergreen.

CHORUS:

Come fall down,
Get blown around.
You’re a leaf up in the air,
And it’s the autumn of your year. X2

OUTRO:

You’re a leaf up in the air,
And it’s the autumn of your year.
Your year.

Awake and Dreaming

So...Here is my acoustic injection of estrogen...I didn't mean this song to come out so girly, but it is an intimate song.:)
I hope I represent this site well, but I need a bit of advice bc I'm afraid I have no ear for mixing. I've compressed and eq'ed and I can't tell any diff.

For starters:
1 Does the main vocal keep an intimate feeling without sounding weak? Is there too much reverb?
I used a condenser mic so I could try to make the impression of having a private conversation.

2 Do the vox harmonies blend well, as if they are of 1 voice?

3. I strummed the guitar with my thumb bc I wanted that "feeling". Does the guitar sound okay? (Keep in mind, my playing ability is limited as I taught myself and have no idea what I'm doing. It boils down to me needing more practice.):)

So, this is my first recording and I appreciate any constructive criticism so that I can improve;) I am sorry for the long post but I have many questions. Thanks.

This song was written in three stages of my life (sad ones), so the song is actually a vomit of my soul :p
i fucked up a couple of times while recording, but i never fixed theses problems..... otherwise it should be fine..

UPDATE: thanx for all the comments... They really are constructive and informative :)
For all of you who want to hear more..... well.... u'll have to wait a bit
My father passed away a few days ago (4th of January)... so I'll be traveling to Chile (after 3 years in Norway) carrying his ashes... anyway, i think this trip and this experience might help me to get inspired and trigger some kind of musical reaction from my fingers.

Obligations

Um, wrote this on the otherside of New Zealand. It's about admitting you're wrong basically :)

VERSE 1

There’s a place,
Where the worn becomes the new.
Few people know that it exsists,
Where redemption’s just admittance away.

And dignity will stay,
If situations are level with your head.

My,
What time.
I thought there for a while that i had won.
What a joke,
Falling prey to circumstance light years away.

CHORUS:

It’s a heavy obligation when you’re singing your own song.
And you’ve only just been told that you’re singing it all wrong.
And you think the words can’t change you’ve been singing them too long.

It’s a heavy obligation X3

But there’s a place you can go,
To lighten the load.

VERSE 2

March,
Fell.
April came and went and turned to may.
Today, here I stand clutching on to shame.
Won’t let up,
Waiting here for something to erupt.

Still,
It stays.
Locked inside my body aching maze.
And I’m right.
Right?

CHORUS:

Tragic Girl

Those of you might recognise this as 'Bluebirds' which I uploaded a couple of months back.
I was very embarassed by that track, so I deleted it.
Anyway, I was looking through old files on my computer today and I came across the backing track to it, and new lyrics popped in my head.
This song is about friendship. I used to be the 'tragic girl' and I lost my best friend because of it. Its way better than that 'Bluebirds' crap.

Lyrics:

You're a victim of your generation,
Miserys no fashion statement,
Get a grip and be thankful you're alive.
F*ck this emo reputation,
This depressive legislation.
Cut your lable, not your wrist, with that knife.

Stupid tragic girl.
In your selfish world.
Tragic girl.
Tragic girl.
You're fighting imaginary wars.

You're fighting imaginary wars.
Imagine what you could be,
If you just admit you're happy,
Imagine what you could be,
If you just admit you're happy.
Oh tragic girl,
Tragic girl.
Get a life.

Draw the curtains back, shed light
On that which you've become.
Stupid emo always looking out,
Out for number one.
I love you honey, can't you just love me?
Quit you're cutting and you're crying,
Let me remind you you're happy.

...In your selfish world,
Tragic girl.
Tragic girl.

Ooh tragic girl,
I'll be there when you wanna cry.
But I wont listen girl,
If you tell me you wanna die.
Oh tragic girl,
Wheres your dignity?
Let me tell you girl,
You wont get sympathy
From me.
From, from me.

Tragic girl.
In your selfish world.
Tragic girl.
Tragic girl

You're just a hopeless little girl,
You're just a tragic little girl,
You're a pathetic little girl, (And I love you.)

This stupid damn laptop with its stupid slowness and its stupid crappy sound...
Need a job!

Lyrics:

Got to find the holes,
Paralel spaces in between.
Its got to all fit together,
And feel just like my dream.

I wont give up,
It'll work one day.
No I wont give up,
Oh come what may.

Got to take my time,
Let it all just find its place,
For patience is a virtue,
And virtue is a grace.
Freedom will taste sweeter,
If I don't complain,
So I sit... And I wait,
Until this song drives me insane.

I wont give up,
It'll work one day.
No I wont give up,
Oh come what may.

I will find,
My place one day.
And I,
Might even have,
Something good to say.

I wont give up,
I wont leave this alone.
No I wont give up,
'Cause I've found my home.

The Punches

"Rolling With The Punches."
I'm gonna add another section and more parts when I can be bothered.
I know theres not really much to it, as with all my other songs, and they all sound the same in my opinion but hopefully I'll be on a college course next year, teaching me how to write songs!
Tell me what you think!

Merci!

Ode To Big Jim

"Big Jim" ( Jim Hood ) was a good friend and an exceptional guitarist with a southern - rock style band in Upstate N.Y., my hometown of Watertown. He was known and loved by all, was a great musician, and a great human being. He was killed on the way home from a gig by a drunk driver who ran a stop sign. This song just reminded me of his style and prompted me to name the tune as such. A critique of one of my other songs stated that I might be better off writing instrumentals. That will never happen because I love to sing...bad or good. However, I took it to heart this one time and I'm glad I did. This one's for you "Big Jim". R.I.P.

I'm the Monkey

This is a fun little electronic tune. I was watching my nephew play with a toy one day. It had little plastic animals on it and when you touched one it would say "I'm the" and the name of the animal. The voice was so cheezy and melodic that I immediately thought "gotta put that in a song." When my nephew was done with the toy (I wasn't going to take it from him!) I rushed it into my room and got a solid recording of the voice, then went to mixing around it!

Hope you enjoy.
